ABOUT DR. E.O. OLA-ADISA
About ME
Erekpitan Omoikhefe Ola-Adisa is a lecturer in Architecture at the University of Jos where she is involved in teaching and research focusing on viability in architecture practice.
Her passion for service began during her postgraduate studies in the US, when she received the Henry Adams (American Institute of Architects) Medallion and Certificate for General Excellence in Architecture, and the Alpha Rho Chi (US Architecture National Honours Society) Medal for Leadership, Merit and Service in her alma mater in 1988. This passion for service climaxed during her NYSC year where she was involved in initiatives culminating in her receipt of the first NCWS Mariam Babangida Cup of Excellence as distinguished female Corps Member in Community Service in Nigeria, 1993 (as adjudged by NYSC), and NYSC Head of State Honours Award, providing her with automatic employment in Federal Civil Service.
Despite such an auspicious beginning, Erekpitan Ola-Adisa faced several challenges in career development as is the case with several women in architecture, largely due to inadequate mentoring. Turning the proverbial lemon into lemonade, Ola-Adisa is involved in direct mentorship programmes, through her Paloma G. Pedrez Mentorship program for youth (particularly girls) in Science and Technology careers. Her indirect mentoring activities include board membership in organisations with interests in literacy, women and children empowerment. Dr E. O. Ola-Adisa has taught Entrepreneurial Studies at the post graduate level in the Department of Architecture, where she brings to bear her experience as Director of Great Blessings Christian Schools, Jos; Pearls Light educational consultancy; and Let’s Read Initiative NGO with combined staff strength of over eighty men (and mostly women).
As a fully registered architect with Architects Registration Council of Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, she operates a diversified architecture practice with landscaping and interior design utilising green architecture principles. She is married with children.
